Mr. McGorry teaches music to 4th graders (and some 3rd graders) at the PS 90 Mini Academy in the Bronx, NY.  The music program provides students with an introduction to music literacy and also focuses on having students performing, creating, and listening to music.  Our instruments include use of the soprano recorder, Djembe drums, percussion instruments, Orff Instruments (xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels) and a keyboard lab.  Singing is also an important part of the program.   The concepts of Carl Orff and Zoltan Kodaly are important foundations for the music program.

Mr. McGorry is a dedicated educator and also an active performer.  He frequently performs as a saxophonist (primarily as a jazz player) in the NYC area.  He leads his own group and is also a sideman in other people's groups (for more information, see www.McGorryMusic.com).  His undergraduate studies focused on Jazz Music Performance and Liberal Studies.  In addition, he holds a Master of Arts from New York University (Liberal Studies/Journalism) and a Master of Science (Elementary Education) from Mercy College.  Mr. McGorry has completed Level I of the Orff Schulwerk method of music education at the Eastman School of Music (2006) and Level I (2007) and II (2008) of the Kodaly method at the NYU Kodaly Summer Institute.  He is an active member of the following organizations:  American Orff Schulwerk-Association  (NYC Orff Chapter: NYCAOSA) and  Organization of American Kodaly Educators (NYC Chapter: Kodaly Educators of New York).
