 Assess Yourself:

From time to time I will record our chorus rehearsals and post the recording here.  Listen to it and "assess" yourselves (assess means to think about what you did well, what you could have done better, and how you can improve).

Some questions to consider:  Do you sound like you are singing together?  Are you blending?  Do the notes sound in tune or out of tune?  Are you taking a breath in the right place or does it sound like you are running out of air when  you hold a note?

Keep your comments positive.  You can learn from criticism, but only if it's constructive ("I think we could use more work on.....") not destructive ("That stinks!").

Jazz Singers

Ella Fitzgerald (Click Here)

Ella Fitzgerald was a great jazz singer.  if you are going on the April field trip to Jazz At Lincoln Center, they will talk about her there.  Check out a clip of her singing "It Don't Mean A Thing."

 Billie Holiday (Click Here)

Click here to see Billie Holiday sing "Fine & Mellow."  This famous clip includes some of the greatest jazz musicians ever, including Ben Webster (tenor saxophone), Lester Young (tenor saxophone), Gerry Mulligan (baritone saxophone), and Doc Cheatam (trumpet).

 Louis Armstrong (Click Here)

Louis Armstrong was both a great trumpeter and singer.  He had a unique "gravel-throat" style of singing.  Check him out here singing "When The Saints Go Marching In."
